Assam reports 499 fresh COVID-19 cases, one death

Assam on April 15 reported 499 fresh cases of COVID-19 taking the total number of active cases in the state to 3613.

The daily bulletin from the state health department stated that of the 18,323 tests done in the past 24 hours, 499 came out positive. The positivity rate has increased to 2.72%.

Among the high case-load districts, Kamrup Metro accounted for 255 of the fresh detections while Dibrugarh reported 64, Kamrup district reported 31 and Tinsukia reported 24 COVID-19 cases.

In the past 24 hours, one death due to COVID-19 infection was reported in Assam. A person died of the disease and related comorbidities in Kamrup Metro district.

The bulletin stated that a total of 15,50,455 persons were vaccinated till April 15. It includes 12,75,383 who took the first dose along with 2,75,072 who completed the full two-dose vaccination.

Assam, along with rest of the country, has been reporting increased cases of COVID-19 since early April. The state has detected 4268 fresh cases this month after a downward trend of new infections in the first few months of 2021.
