The Assam government will be publishing a blueprint for implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP), 2020, in January next year.

State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said a committee will be notified within next week to prepare the blueprint. He said: “We will constitute a 40-member committee, headed by the principal secretary, Education department, for preparing the blueprint. There will be sub-groups within the committee to deal with specific parts of the NEP.”

“The committee will start functioning by next week and we would expect it to submit the report by December 31. By January, we shall come out with the blueprint on how to implement the NEP in the state,” he added.

The minister said the NEP will require ‘structural changes in the education system’ and claimed that the state is already working on proposals made in the policy, including spending nearly 6% of the GDP in education sector.

He added that the NEP will help in taking forward the cultural diversity of the state, while policy will also provide the opportunity to transform the young students into competent manpower.
