A pregnant woman travelling from Bangalore to her home town in Guwahati by Bangalore-Guwahati Express train on November 15 gave birth to three premature babies at Jajpur-Keonjhar Road Railway Station in Odisha.

East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources in Bhubaneswar said that while the woman Munzila Khatun (29) is stated to be in good condition, two of her babies died.

The Railway sources said she gave birth to triplets in the running train at Jajpur-Keonjhar Railway station.

“The patient got down at Bhadrak Railway Station and was attended by Railway doctors,” the official added.

Additional Chief Medical Superintendent, Bhadrak, along with nursing and paramedical staff attended the woman.

Of the three babies, one was alive and after umbilical cord-cutting and dressing, mother and the baby were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital Bhadrak by 108 Ambulance.

The condition of the mother was stated to be stable at the time of shifting, the ECoR sources said.
