BPF walks out of Congress-led grand alliance in Assam

The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has snapped its ties with the Congress-led grand alliance in Assam.

BPF general secretary Prabin Boro on June 28 told local media that the party has decided to snap ties with the grand alliance.

The BPF had joined hands with the grand alliance ahead of the Assam assembly elections. The Congress in Assam had formed a grand alliance with link-minded parties including the AIUDF to take on the BJP-led NDA during the assembly polls in Assam.

The decision of the Bodoland People’s Front comes less than two months after is faced drubbing in the assembly elections in Bodo dominated areas.

The party could only bag four seats in the BTR region compared to the 12 it won in the 2016 elections.

It was a partner in the previous BJP-led government in Assam.
