Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on June 10 said that his government’s renewed steps to stop drug trafficking in the state is not targeted against any particular community. He instead asked everyone to help against poppy plantation, deforestation, and drug trafficking in the state.
Speaking at a felicitation function in Kangpokpi’s Thomas Ground, chief minister Biren Singh said that Manipur’s uniqueness is that it contains 34-35 communities and tribes living together, like a garden where diverse flowers thrive.
He added that each tribe has their own identity and traditions. Biren Singh stated that the administration will keep these identities and traditions well-maintained.
The chief minister warned against social media hate mongers, saying: “We live in a democratic country and can voice our displeasure. However, the government monitors social media for communal comments that might cause misunderstandings and rifts among communities.”
He warned against communal provocative words that could cause division and misunderstanding.
“Let’s not be against progress,” he remarked, emphasising that government activity is for the state’s welfare.
He said that the government’s major goal is to eliminate poppy plantations, drug trafficking, and deforestation in Manipur.
In response to a memorandum, the chief minister said that Rs 9 crore has been allocated for the Thomas Ground restoration, which will comprise a football field, retaining wall, and multipurpose hall.
The chief minister promised Ema markets in Saparmeina and Keithelmanbi.
Minister of textiles, commerce, and industries, Nemcha Kipgen, urged all sections of society and communities to work together for the state’s development, regardless of caste, creed, colour, etc.
She added that chief minister N Biren Singh’s government is people-friendly and believes in hill-valley unity.
“Under the current government, law and order has improved greatly and the relationship between the valley and the hills has been strengthened,” she said, adding that the government has made beneficial improvements in many sectors of the state.
