Police, flying squads and static surveillance teams (SST) in Assam seized cash amounting to Rs 2.72 crore and liquor worth Rs 1.11 crore from various places of Assam since the Model Code of Conduct was enforced in the state.

Election Commission on March 7 informed that various teams are keeping close vigil against any suspicious movement of cash, valuables, liquor, contraband etc.

“This is done to check any attempt at violation of Model Code of Conduct enforced presently for conduct of free and fair polls,” Assam chief electoral officer said.

A statement from the CEO’s office said that during last nine days, till March 6 Rs 2.72 crore cash and 2.4 lakh litre of liquor worth Rs 1.11 crore were confiscated from various places in the state.
