CM Biren Singh inaugurates water project in Manipur, appeals people to preserve forest

Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on July 3 inaugurated the Spring Water Harvesting, Sustainable Water and Forest Conservation project at Heingang, Kameng and Lamdeng.

The project was jointly undertaken by central forest division, forest department, and ICICI Foundation for inclusive growth.

Chief minister Biren Singh said that these projects will provide perennial water to over 300 households for drinking and other activities. “The fragile ecosystem of the state requires implementation of these projects for sustainable forest management as well,” he said.

Singh added that preservation and protection of forest areas is the need of the hour. “The state government has undertaken various programmes and schemes for the conservation of forest in the state. To address the issues of global warming, climate change and environmental degradation, the government has successfully implemented the Chief Minister’s Green Manipur Mission in the state,” he said.

He further added that mass tree plantations have been started in different parts of the state recently.

Appreciating the initiative of the ICICI Foundation for providing potable water to the public, Biren Singh expressed his satisfaction over the project which would benefit hundreds of households in the state. He also suggested the foundation to initiate reforestation projects in the hill areas of the state.
