After criticism over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘apathy’ towards the floods victims of Assam, the central government on Friday announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of the persons deceased and Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured persons due to recent floods in Assam.

The payment will be made from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

Prime Minister’s Office asked the Assam government to furnish details of fund requirement along with the list of the deceased and other details.

The move comes after the Centre was slammed for the prime minister’s visit to flood-hit Gujarat and announcement of ex-gratia and relief package for the western state while no such urgency was shown for flood-hit Assam.
