If the look of the flyovers in Guwahati is damaged by spiting or pasting posters, the individuals will be punished with a fine of a minimum of Rs 1,000, officials said on November 10.
Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) commissioner Devasish Sharma said that they had to adopt strict measures to stop this nuisance from unruly individuals.
“We tried but it didn’t happen. So, we have to be strict. We will have to strict action and if we needed will lodge FIRs against them,” said Sharma.
“We can’t tolerate this kind of behaviour anymore. We have to make the city clean and beautiful,” the Guwahati Municipal Corporation official said.
A notification has been issued in this regard. The offenders will be imposed a fine of Rs 1000 for the first instance. If repeated, the fine will be increased.
Various agencies and organizations which have pasted posters on the flyovers have been asked to remove all these within the next 15 years or they too will have to face some strict actions from the authority.
The GMC will also reward the netizens of Guwahati if they report such offences with photographs to the official WhatsApp numbers released by the corporation.
“We will reward the people who report about this kind of offence with Rs 1000 each if their information is found to be correct. We want the involvement of the public here,” Sharma added.
