Separate flag, constitution key to solution: NSCN-IM

After the “emergency national assembly” of the NSCN-IM on May 31 adopted a “strong resolution to protect and uphold the Naga national principle at any cost”, guessing works intensified as to what nature of situations may arise in the near future. However, there was no definite news on the next move of the NSCN-IM.

After the six-hour-long meeting at Camp Hebron on May 31, the NSCN-IM leaders adopted the resolution, which was christened as “Naga National Decision”. That NSCN-IM resolution is interpreted that there will not be or cannot be any solution (on Naga peace talks) without the Naga flag and the Naga constitution.

Reports said that around 2000 NSCN-IM leaders participated in that assembly.

Closed door meeting between Himanta Biswa Sarma and core committee

Meanwhile, in an interesting development, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Nagaland Legislative Assembly’s Core Committee on the Naga Political Issue (CCoNPI) held a “closed door meeting” in Dimapur on June 2 night. Reports said that the core committee was led by Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio.

What transpired in the meeting was not ascertained till the filing of this report.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is the chairperson of North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), has also been acting as a “catalyst” with regards to the Naga peace talks in the past few years.
