Hardcore ULFA leader held in Tinsukia district of Assam

A hardcore ULFA (I) militant was arrested by a joint team of Assam Rifles, army and police near Lalpahar, Lekhapani, in Tinsukia district of Assam on July 12, an official said on July 13.

Based on a specific input regarding presence of an ULFA (I) insurgent, the team launched an operation in the area, a defence release said on July 13.

During the search, one insurgent identified as a ‘colonel’ of ULFA (I) was apprehended.

The insurgent is suspected to be the ‘assistant secretary’ of ULFA (I).

The apprehended militant has been handed over to Tinsukia Police for further investigation, the release added.
