Himanta Biswa Sarma takes oath as new Assam CM

BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as the new chief minister of Assam on May 10. Along with Sarma, 13 other ministers took oath in the presence of several dignitaries including BJP national president JP Nadda and chief ministers of neighbouring states.

Assam governor Jagdish Mukhi administered the oath at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

The other MLAs who took the oath were state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president Atul Bora, Parimal Suklabaidya, Chandra Mohan Patowary, Keshab Mahanta, Ajanta Neog and Pijush Hazarika. Apart from them, Ronuj Pegu, UG Brahma, Sanjay Kishan, Jogen Mohan, Ashok Singhal and Bimal Bora also took oath.

Earlier on May 9, Himanta Biswa Sarma was unanimously selected as the new chief minister by the BJP legislature party. Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar made the announcement at the BJP legislature party meeting.

Tomar said no other name was proposed in the meeting and that there was complete consensus on the name of Sarma.
