Track sensation Hima Das has set her eyes on bettering her record and compete with the 51 runners from across the globe who run faster than her.

Addressing a media conference in Guwahati on September 8, Hima said that her biggest challenge throughout her career has been to improve her timing and it will remain so till the last day.

“There are 51 runners in the world who runs faster than me. So, I will have to work harder to improve my timing to compete with them in the upcoming international championships, especially the Olympics,” Hima told reporters on Saturday.

She added that her aim is to better her performance every single time without worrying for medals.

On the inspiration, Hima said that it was because of his father Ranjit Das and Lionel Messi for which she started to play football.

“Besides my father who used to be a footballer in the local level, it’s (Lionel) Messi for whom I started to play football. I love Messi. I also derive inspiration from the God of Cricket Sachin Tendulkar,” she said.

Hima appreciated the state government’s sports policy to provide financial support to the players.

“I’m not comparing it with cricketers who get huge money. But getting some financial benefits do motivate the players, especially the athletes. I appreciate this move of the state government. See, states like Haryana are producing many top players because of such motivations. At the same time, we the players also need to work hard to achieve the goal,” she added.
