Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu on Sunday inaugurated the Gumin Rego Kilaju (GRK) Football Academy at Todak Basar Memorial Stadium in Basar.

State BJP president Tapir Gao, deputy speaker Tumke Bagra, home minister Kumar Waii, parliamentary secretaries Jarkar Gamlin and Gojen Gadi including Nari Koyu MLA Kento Rina were present during the occasion.

An exhibition match was played between CM XI and GRK XI where the later won by a goal.

Earlier, Khandu felicitated Kojum Taba in recognition of his outstanding achievements in weightlifting. He also facilitated body builder Paklu Taipodia and arm wrestler Pakjar Taipodia.

The chief minister in his speech said Arunachal youths have tremendous potential in sports but the state lacked adequate infrastructure to support their aspirations. In this direction, he informed that he had asked the Union sports ministry for construction of stadiums and asked the respective districts to submit proposal for the same.

Khandu informed that all sports stadiums funded under SPA whose funding stopped due to discontinuation of the scheme will now be funded by state government. He further informed the state government will try to meet up the requirement of coaches.
