Union women & child development minister Maneka Gandhi visited a number of shelter homes for children women and orphans in Gangtok on Monday.

During her visit to the Himalayan state, Gandhi said that the shelter homes should be enabled to provide skill development to the inmates who further can look for jobs. The Union minister said that if states opt for such a scheme, she would be happy to help.

Earlier, Gandhi met Sikkim governor Shriniwas Patil at the Raj Bhavan in Gangtok on Sunday.

It was a courtesy call by the Union minister who was on a three-day visit to Sikkim.

The Union minister disclosed that it was her first visit to Sikkim.
