Meghalaya reports highest single-day spike of COVID-19

Meghalaya on January 14 reported 189 fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day spike, taking the number of active cases to 898 in the state.

The Northeast state has so far registered 85,629 confirmed COVID-19 cases, health officials said.

On the other hand, 75 patients recovered during the day, pushing the number of recovered cases to 83,597, while the fatality count stood at 1,490.

The most pandemic-hit East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong, recorded 137 new COVID-19 positive cases on January 14. The district now accounts for 711 active cases and 1013 cases of fatality, director health service (MI) Aman War said.

Ten health workers were among those who tested positive for the viral infection.

Meanwhile, 21,98,046 people were vaccinated with first and second dose while 9,430 persons have received the “precaution dose”.
