Foundation stone laying ceremony

Assam Cricket Association (ACA) on September 14 laid the foundation stone an exclusive gymnasium and reception hall in the premises of ACA cricket stadium at Barsapara in Guwahati.

“We have been mulling the idea of building a sophisticated and state of the art gymnasium to facilitate the players with their fitness regime. With the laying of the foundation stone in the ACA Barsapara Stadium premises today, this idea will soon turn into a reality. The ACA has been giving great emphasis in creating proper infrastructure across Assam and this is yet another step towards fulfilling that goal,” ACA secretary Devajit Saikia said.

The gym will have facilities of sauna, ice bath as well meditation and yoga hall.

The project, which will also house a reception hall, will be a two-storied building of about 6000 sq ft and is expected to be completed within next six months.

Saikia said that the gymnasium will benefit players of other games apart from cricket whereas the reception hall will benefit the general public in the future.

“When we are building an infrastructure, it should benefit the players. We will keep the doors open for other sports as well. Let the sports persons avail the benefits and we will be happy to do that. It should be completed by January 31 of 2021,” Saikia added.

The ACA Barsapara stadium, which has already organized international matches successfully, was supposed to host IPL matches as home ground for Rajasthan Royals before COVID-19 pandemic forced the matches to be shifted to UAE.
