Around one lakh stranded people of Northeast states have arrived in different states of the region till May 29 in 63 Shramik Special trains.

About 20 more such Shramik Special trains will be arriving in the coming days to these states, while 22 Shramik Special trains have originated from various NE states under the jurisdiction of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to carry stranded people from these states to their native places, an NFR statement said on May 30.

While more than 320 trains arrived in Bihar areas under NFR till May 30, about 10 such trains will be arriving in various stations of North Bengal under NFR by May 30.

All these Shramik Special trains helped about 5 lakhs stranded people to reach their home state during lock-down period till May 30.

The top three states from where maximum trains originated are Gujarat, Maharashtra and Punjab, while 80 per cent of total Shramik Special trains are running towards few particular states.

IRCTC and Railways have mobilized resources to ensure regular supply of meals and water to the Shramik Special trains and minimize inconvenience to the passengers.

After the Shramik Special trains arrives in the jurisdiction of NFR for onward journey towards various locations in NE states, it is ensured that all the passengers get sufficient food and drinking water for the further journey period, the statement said.
