Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Guwahati, launched a kidney transplant program on October 17 which will offer a comprehensive plan for kidney transplantation for patients in the Northeast region.

The hospital, based at Amingaon in Guwahati, on October 17 cited the example of one of their patients who underwent a successful kidney transplant at the hospital. Dr Bappa Mukhopadhyay, Medical Supervisor at NSH, Amingaon, informed that Gopal Das, aged 27 years from Nalbari district, had been battling kidney failure for quite long time requiring dialysis and was under treatment of Dr Arunima Mahanta, Consultant Nephrologists at NSH, Amingaon. His mother donated her kidney to save her son’s life.

Mukhopadhyay gave a small brief about the kidney transplant surgery of Das which was undertaken by the hospital on September 22 and congratulated the entire team on its successful completion.

Dr Saikat Mallik (Consultant Laparoscopic and Renal Transplant Surgeon) further said that the kidney recipient had a very smooth recovery after surgery and was discharged from hospital within 10 days. He is now on regular close follow-up.

Dr SW Hassan (Consultant Urologist) also expressed happiness over the quick recovery of the mother for the key hole (Minimal Access) method of operation and going back to normal activity of the donor.
