Over 8 lakh COVID-19 tests in Assam; overall tally crosses 33,000
In line with its decision for increased testing to detect COVID-19 positive cases at an early stage, Assam on July 28 crossed a milestone of completing 8 lakh tests to detect the virus that has led to a pandemic.
Altogether 8,02,674 tests have been conducted in the state, out of which 1,97,925 had been outsourced to private laboratories while the rest were done in the state government facilities, state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The number of virology laboratories to detect COVID-19 has increased from one in February to 17 now, he added.
Meanwhile, the death toll in COVID-19 increased to 88 with two patients admitted at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital succumbing on July 28.
The overall COVID tally in the state stands at 33,576 with detection of 1,348 new cases in the last 24 hours.
The deputy speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly, Aminul Laskar, has tested positive for COVID-19.
The BJP legislator who represents the Sonai constituency confirmed this in his Facebook post, stating, “With a very sad heart I would like to inform that I have been tested COVID-19 positive from the first swab sample test few minutes back”.
The recovery rate of the state has also been increasing steadily, with over 25,400 cured patients discharged from different hospitals so far.
