Miscreants attacked the house of a candidate with guns as poll-related violence incidents unabated in Manipur. No casualty was reported in the gun attack at the house of Lourembam Sanjoy Singh at Yambem village under Andro police station on March 12 night, around 10.30 pm, police said on March 13.

Sanjoy contested the election from Andro constituency on the NPP ticket.

The miscreants opened fire several rounds of guns toward the house, damaging the GI-sheet roof of a front structure of the candidate’s house, police also said. Police who conducted a spot inquiry after the gun attack recovered several empty cases.

Saturday night’s attack was not the first time in which the NPP candidate was targeted by the miscreants. Ahead of the poll also, miscreants had shot at to injure his father who is currently being treated at a hospital in Imphal.

While strongly condemning the latest gun attack, Sanjoy alleged that he has been targeted by the miscreants since he started working for contesting the election. He added that while leaving the spot, the miscreants also opened fire several rounds on the way even as a team of Andro police had already arrived at his house to conduct a spot inquiry.

The miscreants also fired several rounds of guns at the house of two of his workers, Sanjoy alleged while drawing attention of the pertinent authorities to take up steps for security of the people of the Andro constituency.
