Security forces have foiled a terror plan after apprehending a militant of banned outfit United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I) with large quantity of explosive in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Tuesday.

Based on intelligence inputs, a joint team of Indian Army and Tinsukia Police launched multiple mobile vehicle check points in Chikrajan area of Tinsukia district.

During the operation, a self-styled sergeant Sabdo Asom alias Jonki Bora of ULFA-I was apprehended. The joint team also recovered electronic detonators, remote control and 10 kg of explosive.

A top official of Indian Army said that, regular intelligence inputs were being received from various intelligence  agencies regarding the plans of ULFA-I militants to carry out bomb blasts in Upper Assam and attack security forces with an aim to revive their diminishing influence.

Indian Army has been carrying out operations in Upper Assam against the ULFA-I. The recovery of the explosives and the apprehension of senior insurgents, has struck a major blow to the group in the region.
