Assam social welfare department organised a seminar on the occasion of ‘International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking’ on June 28 at the district library in Guwahati.

Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro) M Angamuthu, who was the chief guest at the seminar, said that as a society we have to stop the menace of drugs, starting from the parents and school teachers. “We need to find a workable solution to stop the menace and the district administration is there to support,” he said.

Others who spoke in the first session included SP CID Indrani Baruah who spoke on the scenario of substance abuse trafficking in the Northeast region.

Consultant psychiatrist Dr Jayanta Das spoke on substance abuse in youth while chairperson, Assam State Social Welfare Board, Krishna Das, spoke on the role of NGO in awareness, control and prevention of combating the issue of drug addiction.
