The ongoing lockdown in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) in Arunachal Pradesh, has been extended for two more weeks, a top government official said on July 19.
The lockdown clammed in the twin-city of Itanagar and Naharlagun to contain the spread of COVID-19, was scheduled to end at 5 am on July 20.
“The decision to extend lockdown till 5 am on August 3, was taken to contain the local transmission of the disease,” Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar told reporters through a virtual press conference on July 19.
The Itanagar Capital Complex (ICC) has reported a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the last few days with many cases reported from among people not in facility quarantine.
On July 18, as many as 18 cases were reported from Itanagar Capital Complex. A day earlier, 58 cases were detected at ICC. The number of active cases in Itanagar Capital Complex till July 18 was 216.
As many as 131 patients recovered from the disease in Itanagar Capital Complex while a businessman had died of the disease in Itanagar.
