Tripura on May 8 night reported 30 new cases of COVID-19. With this, the number of cases in the state reached 118 with 116 of them active.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb informed that 25 of the new cases were from the 86th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Ambassa. He added that four family members of BSF troopers from the 138th Battalion were also tested positive.

One truck driver tested positive after he was detected at Churaibari Checkpost. “The driver has been quarantined,” the chief minister informed through a Facebook post.

“We are conducting maximum number of COVID-19 tests to ensure better safety of every citizen of Tripura. Cooperate with the government, we are working round the clock for your safety,” Deb added.

Earlier, the chief minister had informed that the state government decided to convert a youth hostel in Agartala into a 300-bed COVID-19 treatment centre under the supervision of GB Hospital.

“We have decided to convert Agartala’s Bhagat Singh Youth hostel into a 300-bed COVID-19 treatment center and it will be under GB hospital’s supervision. Now in Agartala total beds for COVID-19 treatment stand at 410. GB hospital: 80 beds, IGM: 30 beds, Bhagat Singh: 300 beds,” the chief minister has informed.
