A woman was arrested by Wokha Police in Nagaland on July 17 for allegedly posting fake news on social media and spreading rumours related to coronavirus vaccine.
Official sources said the accused on July 11 uploaded a “very disturbing picture and voice message” of a patient in serious health condition, stating that the matter happened after the patient had COVID-19 vaccination.
The post went viral, creating confusion among the people because of her negative comment about COVID-19 vaccine, the police said.
The police, after thorough investigation, found out that the news was fake and it was never related to COVID-19 vaccination.
In this connection, one woman was arrested and a case has been registered against her at Wokha Women Police Station and forwarded to judicial custody.
Additional deputy commissioner of Wokha, Lankonsen Tsanglao, appreciated the police for their prompt action in apprehending the accused, and urged the public to restrain from spreading fake and unconfirmed news.
