Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi in an election rally at Muliabari Field in Digboi has reiterated that the party is committed to the development of the state and employment opportunities for over 10 lakh unemployed youths will be explored in the near future.

Appealing the people to vote for a successive fourth term for Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government in the state, Gandhi promised livelihood to 10 lakh unemployed youths, appointment of 2 lakh teachers, scholarship to meritorious students for appearing in UPSC examinations, free medicines to people with annual income below Rs 2.5 lakh, among others.

The star campaigner also trained his guns at the BJP as he alleged the party to play balls with the rich, which would never work for the poor people. He also alleged that the Central government has deprived Assam of development by scrapping the ‘Special Category State Status’, under which it used to receive special treatment under the UPA government. He claimed that Assam had progressed a lot under the able leadership of chief minister Tarun Gogoi, and would continue to do so if the Congress remains in power.
