World Championship bronze medalist Shiva Thapa and Asian Games silver medalist L Devendro Singh progressed to the quarterfinals with contrasting victories at the senior men’s National Boxing Championships in Guwahati on December 10. Two-time Olympian and local favourite Thapa, who has upgraded to the lightweight (60kg) division, defeated Services sports control board’s Manish 4-1 in an exciting bout at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Sarusajai, Guwahati.

In the fly weight (52kg), comeback man L Devendro Singh, representing Manipur, dished out a dominating performance to outclass Uttarakhand’s Arvind 5-0 in a lop-sided contest.

Among others, former Commonwealth Games gold medalist Manoj Kumar and former Asian Games silver medalist Dinesh Kumar also advanced to the final eight in the 69kg and 91kg categories respectively.
