Indian ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri felicitated Arunachal Pradesh mountaineer Anshu Jamsenpa for her world record summit at the Mount Everest, on Tuesday in Kathmandu.

The Indian ambassador also vowed to help Indian mountaineers who travel every year to Nepal on the occasion.

Anshu became the first ever woman in the world to climb the world’s highest point twice within the span of five days on May 21. Earlier, on May 16 she unfurled the Indian flag at the Mt Everest. Altogether, she has climbed the world’s highest peak for the fifth time.

Manjeev Singh Puri who was an ambassador to Belgium prior to his posting in Nepal congratulated Anshu for her record beating feat.

Puri said that mountaineering is a sport which brings the two countries closer every year and vowed to help the Indian mountaineers.

A mother of two, 37-year-old Anshu, hailing from Bomdila, a remote town in Arunachal Pradesh, created a mountaineering record by climbing and unfurling the national tri-colour atop Mt Everest on May 12 in 2011 and again on May 21 twice in a span of just 10 days. In 2013, she again scaled the Mt Everest.

She also attempted to scale the peak in 2015 but due to the Nepal earthquake, along with all the mountaineers, she also had to call off her expedition in the midway.

Anshu thanked the Indian ambassador for the honour at the embassy. “It was very encouraging,” she told The News Mill from Kathmandu.

Explaining her journey this year Anshu said, “So many people died. We saw bodies…it was a terrible feeling. I felt so helpless and couldn’t do anything. Though I was exhausted, I pushed myself to achieve it. This was the dream I was living for. I couldn’t think of anything else but to complete it. It was now or never”.

After setting the world record, Anshu now aims to scale the unclimbed peaks in different parts of Asia and elsewhere.
