In a move to ensure quality access to medical facilities for tuberculosis patients across Assam, governor Banwarilal Purohit launched ‘TB Call to Action Project’ in Guwahati on August 24.

The programme envisages a comprehensive line of action to lead a fight against tuberculosis. The programme also aims at scaling up the investment in TB from public and private sectors at national and state levels.

Speaking on the occasion, Purohit said, “I hope the TB Call to Action Project fosters an enabling environment and empowers stakeholders to work for high quality tuberculosis treatment.” He also laid stress on the urgent need to improve awareness of tuberculosis among the patients, civil society and affected communities to eradicate the disease completely.

The governor also advocated for increased institutional intervention for controlling TB. He also professed that to ensure visible interventions in TB, ‘there is a need for an integrated, collaborative approach at the policy level to address the existing gaps in TB control’.
