Experimental music artist Axl Hazarika from Assam has become the first Indian to rank in SoundCloud Global Top 10 Trance music chart.
Axl Hazarika’s psychedelic trance track titled ‘Trippy Experience’ has been the only Indian entry in the SoundCloud Global trance music charts Top 50 since 2015.
The track has amassed 8.1 million plays since its upload in September 2015 and is currently ranked #7 on SoundCloud Top 50 global trance music charts.

Axl Hazarika, a Guwahati-based multi-genre music composer and producer, released the soundtrack on SoundCloud in September 2015 and within a month it topped the global trance music charts and remained at #1 position for three consecutive months.
The track is named ‘Trippy Experience’ and is an innovative mix of sounds, intelligent melodies, and captivating atmospherics.
“It’s unbelievable. Although the global trance/psytrance audience is a very small community, it’s the craziest of all. I love their energy. Some time back, we allowed people to download the music for free. But the response was such that many paid up to 150 US dollars for the track. When we first released the track, we never thought of a SoundCloud rank…. The feeling is amazing,” said Axl Hazarika about the response to his track.
Axl is currently involved in a lead role in developing northeast India’s largest government-run digital archive – Jyoti Chitraban Digital Archive. The archive aims to store and preserve for posterity archival materials of all kinds including music, videos, films, documentaries, texts, and photographs.
Earlier, Axl Hazarika released ‘Goru Bihu Song’, an Assamese EDM/experimental video based on the theme of Goru Bihu festival. The video got more than 10 lakhs views on YouTube.
Trance is a genre of electronic music that originated in the 1990s. The musical style is such that it progressively builds tension and elements throughout the track. Usually, a trance state refers to a state of hypnotism or heightened consciousness. This is reflected in the music through progressive build-up of the elements in layers, a soft climax that breaks down into an extended atmospherics that gradually builds up again.
