Home-stays in Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh

The National Skill Development Corporation and the Arunachal Pradesh government in partnership with YouthNet has launched the country’s first home stay skill development programme under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh.

The programme, organized on September 11, was inaugurated by chief minister Pema Khandu in presence of parliamentary secretary, RWD and skill development and entrepreneurship, Jambey Tashi.

A press release issued by YouthNet informed that the pilot programme aims to train 25 women candidates in Tawang who are either running home-stays or want to start their own home-stay in near future. The training is followed up with setting up of home-stays for the participants and registration on various online portals.

The training program is for 50 days which will cover basic hospitality, how to set up and maintain a home-stay, marketing of their home-stay and customer service.

A speech was shared by the NSDC coordinator Nishta Vengurlekar said that they are focussed on such special projects for the Northeast.

Director YouthNet Lezo Putsure said that under this special category project for this year, 25 seats have been allocated for Arunachal Pradesh and 175 seats have been allocated for Nagaland. The Nagaland home-stay programmes are scheduled to start in October. The idea is to be able to empower young people with employment opportunities and also increase tourism growth within the Northeast.
