Two northeast films – ‘Loktak Lairambee’ and ‘Kothanodi’ — will be telecast in the Tata Sky Mumbai Film Festival, 2017. The films which are screened during the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival last year will be telecast.

After a successful 2016 Tata Sky Mumbai Film Festival Service, wherein more than 20 films were made available to Tata Sky, now they are coming up with more such films this year.

“It’s a good initiative. You know, I could never imagine that a Manipuri film would be watched by people in different parts of the country. It’s a good platform for the independent filmmakers like us,” national award winning filmmaker Haobam Paban Kumar said whose film ‘Loktak Lairambee’ will also be telecast.

Paban Kumar said that it would give him the opportunity to watch his friend Bhaskar Hazarika’s award winning film ‘Kothanodi’.

“May be Bhaskar will get to watch my film as well. So, it’s a great thing for films. Every filmmaker’s aim is to reach to maximum number of viewers and this platform will serve the purpose,” he added.

‘Loktak Lairembee’ has won the national award for best film in environment conservation this year. The 71 minute-long movie tells the story of a man who is sick and depressed ever since the authorities burnt his hut after blaming his community for polluting the Loktak Lake. It has also won several awards across the globe.

The film which stars Seema Biswas, Adil Hussain, Zerifa Wahid, Urmila Mahanta, Kopil Bora and Asha Bordoloi among others has won the national award in 2016. It is based on the folktales from Assam.

Altogether 30 different award winning films in different languages including the documentaries will be telecast in the festival.

He Named me Malala (USA), Blue Bicycle (Turkey), Cities of Sleep (India), Faith Connections (India), Angry India Goddesses (India) and Amma and Appa (Germany) among other films which will be telecast.
