BSNL gets record one lakh new connections in Assam

BSNL – The News Mill

In the hour of crisis of the telecom companies across the country, BSNL is trying to woo customers with attractive offers. The telecom service provider has added 1 lakh new customers in Assam in last 10 days.

“This is a record in BSNL Assam. It never witnessed such huge number of connections in that short period of time. It’s around 10,000 connections in a day from February 25 to till March 2,” Sandeep Govil, chief general manager of Assam telecom circle told reporters here on Monday.

Out of these almost 99 percent are pre-paid connections.

He said that it’s very significant when all the network providers are having a tough time to cater the service to its customers. “Only BSNL and Jio have witnessed an increase in the market. I have proved that we can live up to the expectations of our customers and so we are growing,” said Govil.

At present BSNL has around 18 lakh connections in Assam. Besides, 1.3 lakh landline connections across the state. Govil said that the BSNL has witnessed a growth of nine to 10 percent in the last five years in Assam circle.

The BSNL has also disconnected its tie with Aircel which has failed to pay as per their deal.

“They had approached for a tie-up for roaming to continue their network. And accordingly all their services were running through our network for the last 15 days. However, they have defaulted our payment. So, we had to discontinue,” added Govil.

A drive test conducted by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in Guwahati recently found that BSNL has an edge over other networks when it comes to download speed and opening web pages, according to Govil.

Though BSNL is yet to launch its 4G network in Assam, Govil said that they provide the fastest internet speed. He also said that the 4G service will be started in the state soon.

The CGM of Assam circle has also appealed the people to avail the facilities and schemes offered by BSNL in Assam after announcing a host of new schemes especially for post-paid customers and also small value plans.
