The Union heavy industries and public sector enterprises ministry on Saturday released three months’ salary of the employees of Nagaon Paper Mill at Jagiroad and Cachar Paper Mill at Panchgram.

The central ministry has released the fund to Hindustan Paper Mills Corporation required for paying the three months’ salary of the employees working in the two paper mills of Assam.

The employees of two dying units of Hindustan Paper Corporation (HPC) in Assam have been demanding for a “revival package” from the centre since some time.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal thanked the Union government for releasing the three months’ salary of the employees.

Last year, Sonowal urged the Centre to release Rs 1,800 crore for revival of two paper mills in the state. During his meeting with Union finance minister Arun Jaitley in August last year, Sonowal requested him to release Rs 1,800 crore so that the two paper mills of the Hindustan Paper Corporation, Nagaon paper mill and Cachar paper mill, could be opened at the earliest.
