The minister further added that the Barauni–Guwahati pipeline, is an extension of the Urja Ganga pipeline, and will connect Northeast region with other states.

An establishment of a Gas-Grid in Northeast, connecting all states with gas pipelines, will provide tremendous impetus to economic growth and would lead to employment generation in the state.

Bhattacharya welcomed all investors and stakeholders and urged them to join hands in this initiative of PNGRB. He shared that together with PNGRB initiatives, government support in terms of policy and regulatory reforms makes it evident that gas demand in India is poised to grow at an unprecedented rate.

Bhattacharya congratulated PNGRB for their initiatives and welcomed the investors and urged for active participation in the ‘9th City Gas Distribution (CGD) Bidding Round’.

In the ‘9th CGD Bidding Round’, the PNGRB has on offer 86 Geographical Areas (GAs) covering 174 districts (156 complete and 18 part), spread over 22 states and Union Territories (UTs) in India. These GAs cover 29 percent of India’s population and 24 percent of its geographical area.

As a part of the bidding process, PNGRB is organizing roadshows across India at 14 locations, including Guwahati. PNGRB is also organizing roadshows at 3 international locations -Dubai, London and Singapore.

The objective of this initiative by PNGRB, in collaboration with central and state governments, is to primarily benefit the general public while achieving government objectives through these projects.

During the roadshow, PNGRB chairperson Dinesh K Sarraf highlighted the need to work together and leverage the opportunities available today in the CGD business, thereby enabling the Government of India to achieve its target to connect 1 crore households to PNG by 2020.
