Social media on Wednesday showered love and praise on a young child from Mizoram who accidentally hit a chick while riding his cycle and later took it to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Six-year-old Derek C Lalchhanhima from Sairang, Mizoram, was clicked showing the chick and handing over a Rs 10 note for its treatment to a medical practitioner. The photograph, posted by Sanga on Facebook, went viral with several social media users calling it a symbol of humility and humanity.

“Sanga Says, thanks for this. There’s something very important to learn from this innocent young man’s act – that culpability and kindness go hand in hand together. What a beautiful and enabling thought that is,” wrote Arjun Chaudhuri.

The boy’s father, Dhiraj Chhetri, informed that the 6-year-old came home with the neighbour’s chick that he had accidentally killed. He could not understand that the chick was dead and begged his parents to take the chick to the hospital. His father told him to go himself, which he did with a Rs 10 note.

Later he came back sobbing, saying that they didn’t help the chick but only took his picture with the chick and his money. He vowed to go back carrying a Rs 100 note.

His parents finally had to explain to him that the chick is dead and that there’s nothing they can do at the hospital. His father, who works in the state police force and is currently posted in Sairang, Mizoram, said that he was surprised to see his son act this way and did not expect him to actually go to the hospital or that the picture they took of him will go viral. “He’s always been a rather unique kid.” he added. The young boy’s mother, Lalnunpuii, is equally surprised and happy to see his behaviour.

Talking to The News Mill, Sanga, whose Facebook post led to thousands of messages for the young kid, said that he was happy to bring out the story. “I am just glad I was able to share this incredible, uplifting story. All credit to this wonderful boy and his parents,” he said.

With additional inputs from Sanga.
