Three earthquakes of 5.6, 3.8 and 4.9 magnitude hit Arunachal Pradesh on July 19 afternoon. According to MeT department, the quakes were felt in several parts of Northeast.
The first earthquake, measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale, jolted several parts of Northeast at around 2:52 pm on July 19. The epicentre of the quake was reportedly at a dept of 10 kilometres in East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The tremors were felt in Guwahati, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, North Lakhimpur and others parts of Assam. It was also felt at Itanagar, Pasighat, Dimapur, Shillong and other parts of the Northeast at around 2:52 pm.
“The quake occurred at 2.52 pm and had its epicentre in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Kameng district,” a seismologist was quoted as saying by news agency IANS.
The earthquake was felt in parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and adjoining areas of northeastern region. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.
The second one of 3.8-magnitude was recorded at 3.04 pm, also at a depth of 10 km in the East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The third 4.9-magnitude quake was recorded at 3.21 pm with its epicenter at a depth of 95 km in Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Northeast states lies in Zone Five of the seismic map, making the states highly susceptible to earthquakes.
