Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has said that the government accords top priority to the education sector while addressing a gathering of ad hoc teachers from across the state at Malki in Shillong on August 28.
While acknowledging the difficulties and hardships being faced by the ad hoc teachers and others employed in the education sector, the chief minister reiterated the government’s commitment to address and resolve the issues at the earliest.
“The government is aware of the challenges being faced by the teaching community due to the limited financial resources in terms of the salaries that they get. The government is working earnestly to address these issues,” Sangma said while further adding that a significant amount of the government spending has always been earmarked to improve the education sector.
The chief minister, in presence of Union Minister of State in-charge of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale, also informed the gathering that an amount close to Rs 400 crore of central assistance, received in the past year, is being used to improve the infrastructural facilities of educational institutions in the state.
Calling upon all teachers to work together with the government for the sake of imparting better education the chief minister said that necessary instructions have been forwarded to the state education department to convene a meeting in the coming months, with all teachers, regarding their various demands and to find a solution that is acceptable to all parties.
