The Assam government is going to set up a museum in Guwahati showcasing the valour of Lachit Borphukan during the Battle of Saraighat to save Assam from the Mughals and the weapons used in those battles.
The move is aimed at introducing the young generation of the country as well as the foreign tourists with the significance of the Saraighat Battles and immense valour and bravery showed by Lachit Borphukan. The decision was taken on October 1 at a meeting of Guwahati Development Department chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
Suggesting that the museum should be named ‘War and Water’ so that Lachit Borphukan’s naval war strategies could be properly highlighted, Sonowal directed for taking steps to exhibit boats, war materials, cannons etc used in those wars in the museum.
