Two years after the Assam Assembly adopted the Population Policy, the Assam cabinet on Monday decided that no government jobs will be given to the persons having more than two children after January 1, 2021.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting of the Assam government held in Guwahati on Monday evening.

The 126-member Assam Assembly had passed the “Population and Women Empowerment Policy of Assam” in September 2017.

Assam Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said that the state cabinet has decided that the government will not give jobs to the persons having more than two children after January 1, 2021.

The Assam cabinet also adopted a new land policy that will provide 3 bigha land to the landless indigenous people for farming and half a bigha for constructing a house. The Assam minister said that, the beneficiary will sell the allotted land after 15 years of use.

The cabinet also decided to increase bus fares by 25 per cent, and to provide Rs 300 per month to widows under a scheme named after educationist Indira Miri.

The government will give one-time grant of Rs 25,000 for women who became widows on or after April 1 this year under the scheme.

The Assam cabinet also decided to provide adequate help to the patients of the state, creation of new jobs in Panchayat and Rural development department, Public Works department.
