After taking the early lead, NorthEast United FC failed to capitalise on it as they ended up playing a draw against Mumbai City FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on November 28. In the match, the defence line of the home team was slightly weaker, especially with the absence of suspended Kai Heerings.

The Highlanders’ assistant coach Khalid Jamil, however, said that it was just lack of concentration which cost them at least one goal.

NEUFC defender Nim Dorjee clearly missed a ball thus helping Amine Chermiti score his second goal in the 32nd minute. “We worked hard and everybody tried their best. That’s the positive. I would say it was a bit lack of concentration in the defence line. Otherwise, the positive is that we tried our best,” said Jamil.

Meanwhile, Mumbai City FC coach Jorge Costa said that they should have won the match having plenty of opportunities.

“We would definitely have liked to go home with three points. We had some chances but NorthEast United also had their chances. For their first time, they (NEUFC) played a counter-attack. This is because we forced them to do so. We are a good team. This is not the result we wanted,” Costa said.
