Sivasagar in eastern Assam is gearing up to celebrate the third International Shiva Festival. The four-day festival at the iconic Shiva Temple will be inaugurated on February 20 by Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi in presence of hundreds of devotees, culture-enthusiasts and well wishers.
The International Shiva Festival in the temple town of Sivasagar coincides with the Shivaratri festival.
On the occasion, a statue of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika will be established at the Dolmukh Chariali area in Sivasagar town. Also, on the last day of the festival on February 23, two Bhaona will be performed.
The International Shiva Festival will also showcase cultural performance by a troupe from Nepal besides performances by various ethnic communities from Assam and other states of the Northeast.
The organizers and the district administration are on their toes to make the third edition of the International Shiva Festival a grand success. Special arrangements are being made by the organizing committee for the accommodation of the devotees coming for the festival.
The area surroundings the iconic Shiva Temple in Sivasagar has been refurbished for the congregation and CCTV cameras were installed all around the venue.
