Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh are likely to hike liquor prices in a move to increase revenue collection.

“We are working together with Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh to increase liquor price,” Assam Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in Guwahati on May 7.

He said the three states are working together since only one state increasing the price will not yield much result.

“We will need an integrated approach. Like in case of petrol prices, Assam and Meghalaya increased it together,” he added.

Assam will take a final decision on the liquor price hike at the state Cabinet meeting on May 8, depending on what the other two states decide, Sarma said.
