Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on June 11 ordered a probe into the oil well explosion and fire at the Oil India Limited gas field at Baghjan in Tinsukia, in which two people died.
The investigation team will be led by Additional Chief Secretary Manindar Singh. The team will submit its report in next 15 days.
A major explosion occurred on June 9 at the blowout site in Baghjan that has been continuously emitting gas and oil since May 27.
Two Oil India Limited firefighters – Durlav Gogoi (35) and Tikheswar Gohain (55) – went missing on the day. Their corpses were later recovered on June 10 in a water body near the site.
A total of 12 relief camps were set up with 7,000 inmates of the area affected by the inferno.
Oil India Limited officials said that it will take minimum of 21 days to douse the fire.
