Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein inaugurated the service on July 22 and paid the electricity bill of his residence at Namsai through the new portal.

Expressing his happiness over the initiative of the Power department, Mein said: “It is a boon for the general people of the state during the COVID-19 pandemic as they need not have to stand in queue or travel to the offices to pay their postpaid electricity bills.”

He said that with the launch of the system, consumers can pay their bills from the comfort of their home by logging into the portal or by Bharat Bill Pay Ecosystem through various payment apps such as Paytm, PhonePe, BHIM, PayZapp, MobiKwik, etc. and net banking services of various banks.

“From today onwards, consumers from six R-APDRP (Restructure – Accelerated Power Development Reform Programme) Towns – Itanagar, Naharlagun, Pasighat, Roing, Tezu and Namsai – can pay their bills through online. Very soon, the online bill payment system will be activated in remaining three R-APDRP towns of Ziro, Daporijo and Aalo,” Mein, who also holds the Power portfolio, said.

He informed that the Power department will also launch the prepaid online payment service for Itanagar and Naharlagun within a few days. He informed that the activation work of the service is in final stage.

For the convenience of the general public, Mein said the department is also initiating a Customer Care Centre, a first of its kind in the state wherein it will enable the consumers to lodge their power supply-related complaints or for any inquiry related to the electricity bills, over the phone by dialing four-digit pan-India Electricity Complaints Helpline Number ‘1912’.

This will benefit most to those consumers living in far-fetched areas of the township to just call and express their grievances or inquire anything related to their electrical connections by phone, he added.
