The overall flood situation in Assam continued to be steady for the third successive day on July 20 as number of affected population and areas decreased marginally, though the death toll continued to increase.
One casualty was reported since July 19 evening, taking the overall death toll to 85, an Assam State Disaster Management Authority bulletin informed on July 20.
Another 26 people have been killed in landslides so far.
Over 24.30 lakh people remained affected by floods in 24 districts of the state. Altogether 70 revenue circles and 2254 villages and localities were still reeling under waters.
Six major rivers of the state were flowing above the danger level at different parts across the state, including the Brahmaputra in five places throughout the length of the state.
Over 48,000 displaced people were taking shelter in 276 relief camps in the state, while 192 relief distribution centres were also operational.
As many as 291 stranded persons were evacuated from different parts by SDRF personnel, assisted by civil administration and local people.
In Kaziranga National Park, the number of animals killed in floods, including hit by vehicles, has increased to 113, while another 140 animals have been rescued so far.
Out of 223 forest camps in the park, 50 are still affected by floods and six remain vacated.
The situation was improving in Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park with number of affected forest camps coming down to two out of total 40 camps.
