After testing positive for COVID-19, NorthEast United FC’s assistant coach Khalid Jamil is presently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Goa.
This is a precautionary measure and his current condition is stable, a statement from the club said on October 15.
“We expect that he will be discharged from the hospital soon,” the NorthEast United FC statement said.
Jamil had cleared all his tests prior to travelling to Goa but tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving.
“NorthEast United FC is following all Indian Super League (ISL) mandated guidelines to ensure the safety of our players and staff. We would like to thank all the fans and well-wishers for their concern and the club will provide regular updates on the situation,” added the statement.
The team has already assembled in Goa including its head coach Gerard Nus and some of the foreign players.
NorthEast United FC has several new foreign recruits this season including Ghanaian striker Kwesi Appiah, Australian defender Dylan Fox, Belgian defender Benjamin Lambot, French-born Mauritanian defensive midfielder Khassa Camara and Portuguese winger Luís Machado among others.
Among the Indians – former Mohun Bagan players Ashutosh Mehta and VP Suhair besides Rochharzela and Lalkhawpuimawia joined the club.
The 7th season of the ISL begins from November 21 in Goa. All the matches will be played in Goa this season for COVID-19 pandemic.
