Protesters set on fire several government offices at Vijaynagar in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, on December 11 morning.
Reports said that the old EAC office, post office, old police station and partially the SIB office have allegedly been set on fire by protesters. SP Changlang Mihin Gambo told the media that a mob of around 200-300 people attacked the government offices and set them on fire. They also ransacked the local police station. “The situation is under control. We have not made any arrest yet,” he said.
The incident comes days after the State Election Commission deferred the panchayat elections in Vijaynagar circle, the easternmost circle in Changlang district.
A report in EastMojo quoted Changlang additional deputy commissioner T Rumi confirming the incident. “The EAC office was set on fire on Friday morning by some members the Yobin Students Union,” the report quoted Rumi.
