Outpatient Department (OPD) services at RIMS and JNIMS in Manipur are set to restart soon as number of new COVID-19 patients in the state has gone down rapidly, a government official said on December 20.

“With a view to consolidate the declining trend of COVID-19 deaths in the state, it was decided to open the OPD services in the two medical institutes – RIMS and JNIMS – at the earliest. The decision was taken in state COVID coordination meeting held on December 19,” said Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, spokesperson at Manipur health department.

47 fresh positive cases of COVID-19 in Manipur

On December 20, the total number of new COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur stood at 47. Of these, 23 cases were detected from Imphal West, 14 from Imphal East, four in Thoubal, two each in Bishnupur and Ukhrul while a solitary case was detected each in Tengnoupal and Tamenglong. All were locals without any significant travel history.

In the last 24 hours, one person aged 48 years died at RIMS Hospital due to COVID-19 complications. The total number of deaths in the state went up to 337 due to the viral infection.

The state has recorded 27,646 positive cases till now with 3,333 of them being central security personnel. Of the total cases, 25,646 already recovered from the disease.

Manipur now has 1,663 active cases of COVID-19.
